Let’s take a look at some of the best on the market!

The Best Waterproof Dog Beds – Top 10 Reviews

PetFusion Ultimate
This waterproof orthopedic dog bed features memory foam that can improve your dog’s energy and comfort, reduce your pet’s joint pain, and calm their anxiety. The interior is 4” of solid memory foam, which offers a stiffer support and will hold it’s shape longer. The foam also passes strict European safety standards and has a cover that is certified as safe for skin contact. A unique feature not seen on many other beds is the pillow-like bolster that lines the edge of the bed to give your dog some extra comfort.

The removable cover is made from a blend of cotton and polyester. It is water resistant and washable with two zippers along the sides, which makes it easier to remove and to clean if your pet has an accident or a fun time in the pool. With the waterproof liner, this could also be the perfect waterproof dog bed for outside or camping as well.

With a variety of sizes, colors, and a skidproof bottom, this washable dog bed is a great pick as it has most of the must-have features on our list. However, this model can get quite expensive especially if you have a larger dog.

This large dog bed also features a microfiber cover that is water and tear resistant. In addition, the cover is removable using high quality zippers and is washable. With its waterproof liner, you don’t have to worry about mildew. This bed also features a non-skid base and a rectangular shape that could fit well into a crate. It has a 4” layer of soft, comfy foam that is supported by a 2” layer of high density foam.

The removable cover is made from velour, so it resists dirt and hair and is machine washable. However, velour is not often water resistant and does not provide a skidproof bottom. The inner liner encases the memory foam, making this dog bed 100% waterproof. It also is naturally hypoallergenic with a 3-year warranty against dust mites. The rectangular shape also makes it perfect for crates.

Pet Craft Supply Super Snoozer
Suitable for indoor and outdoor use, this water resistant dog bed is made from durable polyester that wicks moisture and holds up to chewing and scratching. Since the bed uses the same polyester material on top and bottom, there is no skid proof base and would be easy for your dog to move.

This bed doesn’t use any memory foam. Instead, it uses polyfill stuffing with stitching designs to keep the material in place. Polyfill does still offer a certain level of comfort and support for your pet but not as much as a combination of memory foams used in other beds. Unlike the other beds on this list, it doesn’t have a removable cover or a waterproof inner liner, but the entire bed itself is machine washable. It comes in two sizes and a few colors and is a good shape for a crate. For the price it’s a great addition for an on-the-go buy if you’ve forgotten your dog's waterproof bed at home.

Though it’s not exactly waterproof as it doesn’t have a waterproof liner, the bed is easy to clean and is great for on-the-go as it fits perfectly into crates. The high-density egg-crate foam is great for giving your dog comfort and support as you go on your adventures.

Love’s Cabin
Featuring a high density egg-crate memory foam, your pet’s weight will be evenly distributed and supported with this dog bed. Designed to cope with pet accidents, this bed features a cover that is water resistant, stain proof, removable, and easy to clean.

Like similar models, this bed’s cover is dual-sided with sherpa and oxford material for both cold and warm months. Though the materials help with your pet’s temperature, neither is skidproof. However, the material is durable, which is perfect for dogs that scratch or chew. The shape makes it portable and easily used inside a crate or car.

This extra large bed is great for big breeds like German shepherds and golden retrievers. Without a waterproof liner, this bed would not be suitable for a lot of liquid.

Barkbox Memory Foam Platform
Gel memory foam offers your pet therapeutic support with this dog bed. In addition to the cooling layer of gel memory foam, a high density memory foam makes up the base, so your pet gets a cooling bed that distributes their weight to relieve pressure from arthritis or hip dysplasia. In all sizes and many colors, this bed also features a removable and machine washable cover.

The soft material is light grey and can fit into any home decor. This bed also includes a water resistant lining, which isn’t waterproof, but like other water resistant beds, it will reduce the amount of clean up needed and likely will reduce the amount of liquid absorbed by the inner materials. It is all one material, so there is no skidproof bottom.

The shape makes it crate-friendly and easily transported during travel. Though this bed is marketed for dogs, the company said it’s suitable for other pets than dogs, too. With its price being in the medium range, which is between $30 and $70, it’s unfortunate that there is no waterproof lining, but this bed can still be a good addition if you want to give your dog some cooling relief in the summer months.

Milliard Premium
This bed would be another great choice for a waterproof bed for your home. It features two layers of foam. The top layer is a dense memory foam with a sturdy foam base that is supportive and comfortable. The combination of these foams means that their structure will not flatten out over time, making them more durable. The polyurethane foam is also certified as free from heavy metals.

The cover is machine washable and can be dried in the dryer. The cover features zippers along two sides, making it easier to remove than other dog bed covers on the market. Made from polyester, the bed cover is water resistant and durable against chewing and scratching as well as from liquids as it is lined with a TPU coating. The TPU, or thermoplastic polyurethane, coating protects the inner foam from getting soiled. In addition, it has rubber grips on the underside to make it slip proof.

This bed is thick enough to be comfortable for your dog but also thin enough to be easily transportable and to fit into a crate without issue.

How to Choose the Best Waterproof Dog Beds

There are many factors you should consider when choosing the best waterproof dog bed for your pet. Your pet is an important part of your family, so it’s health and comfort should be considered. However, you have to find the bed that suits your needs too. In order to do that, lifestyle, the types of materials, and your budget may all play a role in finding the perfect waterproof or water resistant dog bed.

Dog Bed TypesWaterproof Dog Bed Types and Materials

There are two main types of waterproof dog beds. The first usually features a waterproof liner that goes underneath the cover, which is usually removable and washable. The covers are typically water resistant but not waterproof themselves. The second type features an inner base that is made from waterproof materials, which helps prevent liquids from soaking through to the floor. Unless you are on a budget, or if it doesn’t fit your needs, then the best waterproof dog bed should include some basic features.

Must-Have Features

Removable and Washable Cover

  • A removable cover is important when choosing a dog bed because it will save you a lot of time in the long run. It’s very difficult to throw a large dog bed into the washing machine, so having a cover that can be removed, usually by way of a zipper, makes keeping your house, boat, or car cleaner.
  • Once the cover is removed, it can be put into the laundry and cleaned quickly and easily. Look for a cover that is water resistant and durable. Many materials that are water resistant may not be tear resistant, so they won’t last as long. If you can find a material that does both, all the better!

Memory Foam PaddingMemory Foam Padding

  • Though memory foam isn’t necessarily waterproof, it must be considered for the comfort of your dog. Luckily for pet owners, many of the waterproof dog beds on the current market come with memory foam already.
  • Getting a waterproof dog bed with memory foam has a lot of benefits. Elderly dogs will benefit from memory foams because it will ease pressure points and be generally more comfortable. Certain types of memory foam will be breathable and help your dog maintain a comfortable temperature while it snoozes.
  • Generally, there are a few different types of memory foam that are used.
    • High Density Memory Foam – This high density foam is often used as a base layer (the layer on the bottom) because it tends to be really firm, but it also tends to maintain its shape longest.
    • Egg-Crate Memory Foam – Egg-crate foam refers to the shape of the foam because it looks like the inside of an egg carton. This foam is typically used for the top layer of foam because it distributes weight more evenly to reduce pressure points. Egg-crate foam can be breathable, but lower quality foams can break down faster, so they are less durable, and the need to replace this foam is higher.
    • Cooling Gel Memory Foam – Cooling gel memory foam is made from gel beads that are specifically designed to absorb heat and can keep your pet cooler in the summer months.
  • Many beds will have a mixture of these materials. High density foam should be considered for its durability whereas egg-crate and cooling gel foams should be considered for your dogs comfort and needs. However, high density foam is sometimes too firm on it’s own, so if your dog has arthritis or conditions like hip dysplasia, you should consider a mix of high density and egg-crate foams or other softer foams.

Waterproof Liner/Materials

  • As many dog bed covers are water resistant and removable, having a waterproof liner or materials is very important. Water resistant material slows water or liquid, but over time, the material can wear out. If a dog bed doesn’t have a waterproof liner, it will rely on waterproof inner materials. At least one is necessary to make the dog bed waterproof. A waterproof liner will protect the memory foam interiors.

Non-Skid Bottom

  • Non-Skid bottoms are important features to keep your dog safe. Some waterproof dog beds that have grippy bottoms will have minimal movement while traveling. If your pet likes to move their bed from where it’s supposed to be, the non-skid bottom can also make it less likely for your dog to be successful in those escapades. The non-skid bottom can also be handy if there is a spill or an accident because the bed won’t slip on the liquid. However, heavier beds won’t move as much even without a skidproof bottom material.

Other Features to Consider

  • Many dog beds come in a variety of colors and sizes. Finding the right size for your pet is very important. If you buy a bed that is too large, you could be wasting some funds. If you buy a bed that is too small, your dog won’t be as comfortable as it could be.
  • Color may not be the most important feature, but some of us like to make a dog’s bed part of the overall mood of our home. Some pet parents may even choose a bed color that matches the personality of their dog. If this is you, there is no judgement!
  • Also, if you use a crate often for your pet during the day or during travel, consider dog beds that fit into crates well. A round bed may not be best for crates, whereas square or rectangular shaped beds will be best. Also consider matching the size of the bed to the crate you use. The bed shouldn’t necessarily take up the entire crate space as you may choose to leave your dog water and food.

Lifestyle Considerations

Best Budget Waterproof Dog Bed

Waterproof dog beds can fit into a variety of lifestyles. If you’re an active dog owner that goes on hikes or camping trips, waterproof dog beds can help keep your home, your care, or your camper cleaner. While camping, it’s not easy to give your dog a bath, so finding a bed that is easy to clean and waterproof might be perfect for your lifestyle. If you enjoy sleeping under the stars, you can even find dog beds that are water resistant and perfect for the outdoors. People who live in rainy areas will also benefit from saving time with machine washable covers for dog beds.

People, no matter the lifestyle, who have older pets or puppies that may not have perfect bladder control will also benefit from waterproof dog beds.

Budget

Dog beds can be on the pricey side. Often, waterproof beds are more expensive, but because they are made with durable and waterproof materials, the beds last longer than typical beds that don’t have the waterproof features. High quality memory foam and water resistant materials can be expensive but could save you money and time in the end. The good news is you can find quality waterproof or water resistant dog beds to fit any budget!

Best Budget Waterproof Dog Bed

Budget is a relative term, but usually when you can get more money for your buck, you’re happy. There are two dog beds that can be considered the best budget friendly waterproof dog beds as they still have most of the features that we deemed best. The Brindle Waterproof Designer Memory Foam Pet Bed and Milliard Premium Orthopedic Memory Foam Dog Bed both have memory foam, durable and washable covers, and are in the medium price range, being from around $30 to $70.

The biggest difference between these two beds is that the Brindle waterproof bed features a waterproof liner that encases the interior memory foam pads. The Milliard bed uses a coating that is sprayed onto the memory foam to make the interior waterproof. Each bed is easy to fit into crates or easy to transport during vacation. The Brindle bed does not have a slip proof bottom, but the Milliard does offer a grippy bottom. This feature can be handy and help prevent slipping, but each bed offers other features to make up for what they might be lacking. You get all of the quality of a more expensive bed but with a cheaper price.

So, how do you choose between the two? If you’re looking for a bed with more support, choose the Brindle. If you’re looking for a bed with a slimmer profile and is slip proof, your best bet would be the waterproof bed from Milliard.

Best Large Dog Waterproof Bed

There are two frontrunners when it comes to a bed for your large breed dog. Each has unique features and all of the must-haves. Unfortunately, they are also the most expensive. PetFusion Ultimate Dog Bed and Laifug Orthopedic Memory Foam Extra Large Dog Bed  both are meant for big dogs. Each bed features extra thick memory foam padding, which can be incredibly comfortable for big dog breeds. As big dog breeds tend to have more health issues, especially when they age, they will need the extra support from layers of durable memory foam. Each bed has a removable cover that is water and tear resistant, making them suitable for travel and the outdoors. Each bed will have the extra protection of waterproof liners, so even if there is a lot of liquid, the interior foam pads will remain dry. In addition, both beds feature non-skid bottoms and are crate friendly. The PetFusion bed has a bolster of fluffy material around the outside edge of the bed for comfort. Similarly, the Laifug also has two unique pillows on either side to make your pet even more comfortable.

With both having superior features, it can be hard to choose between these two waterproof beds. The PetFusion bed is definitely more expensive at a max of $240. However, it boasts that its materials have met strict European standards for quality and safety. In addition, the PetFusion offers 4” of solid memory foam, which is sturdy, but it also can be a little stiff for a pet with arthritis or other physical conditions. The Laifug bed is half the price of the PetFusion, at $120 for the extra large bed. It has a mix of soft memory foam and a base of more sturdy form, so you get the best of both worlds.

It is a choice between price, memory foam material, and European standards for safety.

Best Water Resistant Bed

There were many dog beds on our list that were extremely close to being waterproof but fell short. We have to remember that price can take away from quality. However, there are still many dog beds, though not waterproof, would make great beds for the random accident. The two top choices are the Bedsure Large Orthopedic Foam Dog Bed and the Love’s Cabin Large Dog Bed.

Each of these beds is roughly the same price at around $40 for even large breeds. So, we need to look at other features to see which one would fit your needs. Neither of these beds are waterproof as they lack the inner liner, but each does have a removable and washable bed cover. Both of these beds use high quality sherpa material on one side to keep your pet warm during the colder months. On the opposite side, each features cooler oxford material for summer months. Neither has a non-slip material on the bottom. And continuing with how similar these beds are, each of them offers egg-crate high density foam to support your dog and ease pain.

As both beds are incredibly similar, we have only one way to choose which is best. We must consult the reviews! On Amazon, each bed has a 4.5 star rating. However, the Love’s Cabin bed has 60 ratings to the Bedsure bed’s 45 ratings. Considering this, it would seem that Love’s Cabin has enticed more buyers and maintained its rating, making it the more reliable choice.

Final Thoughts

The right waterproof pet bed is necessary for your dog to live a full and happy life with you out on the road or at home. Many beds on the market are budget friendly and provide support for your pet. In the end, it’s up to you what you think is suitable when it comes to a waterproof bed or even a water resistant bed. Whether your pet has accidents or an insatiable desire to jump in muddy puddles, it’s important to have the right bed to make your life easier. Get one that fits your budget, uses quality memory foams, is durable, and fits your lifestyle!

  1. Okay, this is crazy. No joke – I NEVER heard of a waterbed for dogs. It sounds totally interesting. Since I am worried that my dog (French bulldog) might break the bed, which one would you recommend? My dog is very active and therefore playful and likes to bite. I find the first mentioned “Petfusion Ultimate” interesting. 🙂
